I have been talking about this for months. OpenAI fights regulation where it can and every photo of a high ranking official with Sam Altman should be seen as a threat.
@tante This has played out as if from a textbook, hasn't it?
Company making transparently overhyped PR claims.
Financially threaten multiple nations that try to act on those claims.
Lobby transgovernmental bodies to legislate to your benefit and against your claims.
And the timeline is so condensed that it's just *chef's kiss* textbook corporate sleaze.
@tante The worst outcome we can get is that the development of open-source models will no longer be feasible (because of restrictions), while at the same time, regulations of companies are not regulatory enough... I think this "sweet spot" is most attractive to big tech. Regulations to protect their interests.
@BZoennchen @tante "regulatory capture." Gasoline is dangerous, better make sure you're only allowed to touch it if you have ten mil in the bank and corrupt politician approval
@tante openai is basically a Peter Thiel organization. Everything about it should be seen as a threat.
